Breakdown Details
About Quizzes - Quizzes is how we’ll prove what we’ve learned. The quiz system gives you the time and opportunity to learn and relearn at your own pace. Our quizzes are the key facet the drives our learning, and we must take them seriously.
How Quizzes will be graded - Each concept will be graded on a scale of 0-4. (0 - Question left blank, 1 - Question is attempted, 2 - On the right track but mostly incorrect, 3 - Almost correct AND all work is shown (small mistakes on a few steps), 4 - Completely correct AND all work is shown)
About Homework, Classwork, and Participation - The main purpose of homework and classwork is to practice. Mathematics is cumulative and largely skills-based. It is only through practice that we learn math best. How Homework will be graded - Each assignment will be graded on a scale of 0-5.
(0 - no submission, 1 - less than 50% or no work is shown, 3 - more than 50% complete and work is shown, 5 - fully complete and work is shown)
How Classwork & Participation will be graded - Classwork and participation go hand-in-hand. In our class, if you are working in class, you are actively participating. Openers, exit slips, classwork assignments, and groupwork assignments will be graded on a credit or no credit scale.
About Binder - Our class binder is what will keep us organized and prepared. Every student is REQUIRED to maintain a 3-ring binder for the class. The binder will have 3 tabs in the following order: notes, quizzes, returned work. Everything you do in class will be placed in the appropriate section. Each section will be chronologically ordered (oldest in front, newest in back). Binder checks will occur periodically and will sometimes be unannounced - always keep your binder maintained for full credit. Bring it to class everyday! How binders will be graded - If everything is in order the day of the binder check, you will receive a star. A star on the first day is 10 points (full credit). If the binder is NOT in order the day of the binder check, the stars value will go down by a point each day afterward.
Miscellaneous
Bathroom Policy - 2 passes per marking period. Every unused bathroom pass becomes an excused homework assignment (up to 2 per marking period) If you happen to go beyond 2 per marking period, you’ll me time outside of class. Missed Quizzes - Our quiz system allows unlimited retakes. If you’d like to retake a concept that no longer appears on the in-class quiz, you must come in on your own time.
Late Work - I accept late work, but anything received LATE is eligible for only half credit. You must attach a “late work coupon” explaining why it is late, whether or not it is excused.
Checking Grades - Grades will be updated weekly on our classroom chart. Progress reports will be sent home to guardians and parents once per marking period. Tardiness - If you are late, you will be marked tardy on the attendance sheet. I do understand that portable T is far, but I do expect that you are in your seat within a minute of the bell.
